Foster Elementary will become Foster Dual Language PK-8 option school starting with the 2020-21 school year. This shift will provide school wide dual language programming and the option for students to continue in dual language through middle school. Foster will continue to give priority to students who live in the neighborhood, though it is important to enroll during the first round of EnrollJeffco if a spot is desired.
The Dual Language program at Foster provides a unique opportunity that brings together Spanish and English speaking students in an effort to develop full bilingualism in both groups. All students will have the opportunity to learn a second language without compromising their first language.
This program:
- Develops children who will be more competitive in the global economy and more collaborative in our multicultural society
- Takes advantage of the optimal window of learning a second language during the primary years
- Supports families with a cultural, ethnic, or multilingual heritage
- Produces critical thinkers and problem solvers who can use a communication-rich approach to succeed in the information age
- Nurtures understanding and cooperation of the different cultures living side by side in Jefferson County
- Gives students an edge in high school, college, and the workplace
- Provides a full-day, free preschool and kindergarten
